Seckou Keita Winter Workshop

14 - 28 January 2018

CITY BOOM BOOM is truly honoured to once again work with the incredible artist and musician – SECKOU KEITA. Despite his extremely busy schedule, Seckou has taken time out to be with City Boom Boom in January 2018. No one has ever been disappointed with Seckou's workshops; his warm and fun-loving personality together with his highly professional teaching practice, make him one of the most sought-after djembe instructors today.
What makes these workshops so special? Due to Seckou's busy performance schedule, he has had to limit the amount of time he can dedicate to djembe workshops. And so this really is a unique opportunity to improve your djembe skills under the guidance of a true master! In addition to Seckou's workshops, we will also be offering workshops in sabar and bougarabou drumming as well as traditional Senegalese dance including sabar, regional dance and traditional Guinean dance.

These workshops never disappoint; two weeks in the beautiful seaside fishing village of Abene where you are guaranteed a warm and musical welcome, a place where you can completely switch off and relax, and where you'll find yourself reassessing what's really important in life ♥ Year after year people keep coming back for more and this year we have an even more exciting two weeks in store for you.
SECKOU KEITA – BIOGRAPHY
Seckou was born in Zinguinchor, Senegal. Through his father he is a descendant of the Malian Keita family of kings and his mother’s family, the Cissokhos, are a griot family (hereditary musicians). He launched his international career in 1996 under the guidance of his uncle Solo Cissokho. In the years that followed, Seckou relocated to the United kingdom, while touring regularly all around the world. He joined the popular world music group Baka Beyond as a drummer in 1998, contributing to their well-received East To West album and in 2000 began to record his own solo debut Baiyo (retitled Mali for a later release through ARC Music), which encompassed his musical journey to date, from Africa to Europe, via India. Seckou also contributed to Salif Keita and Youssou N’Dour UK tours. Also a renowned drummer, Seckou travels around the world giving concerts and workshops, and has collaborated with Mamady Keita on his live album. Seckou also supports environmental projects in the United Kingdom and Africa. For many years now, Seckou has worked with Sewa Beats and co-created the musical arrangements of the concert "Do You Speak Djembé?".

Do You Speak Djembe?

How about taking part in this fantastic fusion of classical music and ancestral African drumming?

“Each of you gets an African drum and you all take part in a unique three-way performance.
A really incredible happening”

Philippe Fournier, with his Orchestre Symphonique Lyonnais, and Doug Manuel, with his team of African musicians, carry the audience right into the heart of it all, and everyone ‘speaks Djembe together’.

Through Dominante and Sewa Beats, these two artists have already forged themselves solid reputations as architects of creative musical events.

Do You Speak Djembe? breaks down all barriers.
Performers and audience come together, in a language and a world of their own.
Discover this exceptional experience of communicating through music.

Featuring the maestro kora player Seckou Keita, this incredible show brings together the very best of this generation’s West African and great European musicians.
Imagine... Imagine a fusion ... African rhythms ... Western harmonies ... A unique creation ... Two chefs d’orchestre ... A show without spectators ... Where the public becomes actor ...

Dan kulturne raznolikosti: Seckou Keita radionica

Seckou Keita svojim jedinstvenim stilom spajanja melodije i ritma koristeći koru, tradicijski instrument podneblja u kojem je rođen, predstavlja novu generaciju afričkih glazbenika.
