Born in 1954, in Burkina Faso, Inza Diabate is a griot, a bearer of the African Oral Tradition. Today, the social position of the griot is different, and Inza defends his cultural identiity and claims it with his Djembe. Both modern and traditional, his personal style of drumming demonstrates of Inza's continual research to carry the Djembe and proove that it is a fully alledged musical instrument.On his DVD there are 6 clearly explained traditional rhythms: Sika, Jansa, Barani, Take, Yagwa, Diaka.
A documentary part of DVD takes us into the Mandingue culture, in Burkina Faso (Western Africa) where many Djembefolas have lived and professed throughout history and continue to do so today. There, Inza Dabate tells us of their history of the Western African drumming and shows us how a Djembe is carefully crafted, from the choice of the right material to the tuning of the skin as well as tips on preserving the instrument through time.
